As much a history lesson as a game compilation, Mega Man Anniversary Collection may follow the "residual revenue off retired stock" business model, but at least they didn't skimp.

Though technically there have been about 30 side-scrolling, platform-hopping Mega Man games in various iterations on various platforms, this collection contains ten of the franchise's sequential hits (and near misses, in some cases), starting with the first Mega Man on the NES up to an 8th version on PSX, plus a couple of arcade versions from '95 and '96.

Now while it seems a little odd to see such measly graphics on the mighty Xbox, gameplay is actually pretty good in that low-pressure, hop-shoot-and-jump sort of way; the clever puzzles and one-the-fly weapon mix-matching challenges are timeless.

It's nothing mind-blowing, mind you, but, for the price, a good one to own as a respite from the overwhelming interactive sumptuousness of modern day gaming.
