In the garishly cute and cleverly named "Wii-kly update," which occurs every Monday, Nintendo just made available three more moldy oldies at the Wii Shop Channel, which allows Nintendo Wii owners to buy retro games originally designed for game systems of yesteryear and play them anew on the Wii.

Most notable of the bunch is Konami's Gradius, originally designed for Nintendo's first console, the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System). Though homely to look at, Gradius represents a hallmark in the space shooter genre.

Also added were Soldier Blade, another space shooter, and Dungeon Explorer, a dungeon exploring game (duh), both originally made for the righteously defunct and easily forgotten TurboGraphic16 from NEC. One might be inclined to call them "classics" too, but only if one uses the term to mean "old."
