Andy "Cyberwalker" Walker, author, broadcaster and all around go-to tech guru, has just launched a new philanthropic project called "Little Geeks." The Toronto-based organization refurbishes used and unwanted computers then gives them to underprivileged children in the GTA.

As described on the Little Geeks website at www.littlegeeks.org, computer donors, or "Donor Geeks," can pick their "Little Geek" (or have them selected automatically) and then pass along their old computer(s) through tech-savvy enablers, the "Big Geeks." Big Geeks then refurbish, prep, optimize, and deliver the computer to the chosen recipient.

Naturally, LittleGeeks.org has put out the call for donations from the public, which can be initiated on the website with donor matching by postal code.

Moreover, LittleGeeks.org is also looking for volunteers to fill various roles, including computer-literate Big Geeks as well as a Project Director, Marketing/PR director, Corporate Liaison and a number of coordinators.

Most importantly, LittleGeeks.org is looking for support from the corporate sector, specifically a web development house (or team) to take on the design, maintenance and hosting of LittleGeeks.org website, office space in Toronto for the Big Geek team to receive and prep the donated machines, a courier or shipping company to get gear into and out of the production environment, and an ISP commitment to provide 500 internet connections for Little Geek homes for 2 years.

With modest goals to start, LittleGeeks.org hopes to have 500 donated and refurbished computers in the hands of 500 children in the GTA by February 13, 2007, after which they hope to run the project nationally and internationally.
