As downloadable casual console games go, last month saw the expected simplicity of block-breaking games and interactive screen savers, but also the deceptively cheery and frightfully addictive Xbox Live Arcade puzzle, RooGoo, which looks like cognitive skills program for toddlers, but is so not.
Until now, Wii owners have happily / reluctantly endured the steady onslaught of barrel-scraping retro rehash games made available for download in the Virtual Store. But with the launch of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King, freshly minted top-tier titles, under the auspices of WiiWare, are also an option. Just like Xbox 360 and PlayStation3 have been offering for quite a while now.
The record game sales of 2007 are just a start for the soaring videogame business according to industry research firm, DFC Intelligence. Further, DFC forecasts that sales of the formerly floundering PlayStation3 should overtake the Xbox 360 in sales in 2009, finishing in a strong second behind the Nintendo Wii.
